Arise Invests in Pohjan Voima
The Stockholm-listed wind power company Arise and Pohjan Voima have agreed on
a strategic partnership.
Swedish renewable energy company Arise AB and Pohjan Voima have established an agreement in which Arise will acquire a 51 percent stake in Pohjan Voima. As part of this strategic partnership, Arise will finance the development phase of Pohjan Voima’s projects and will offer its expertise to support their construction and operation.
“This is a significant step for us toward the construction phase of our projects. With the new partner, we will gain international experience and expertise, new contacts, and know-how in the construction and operation of wind farms. The arrangement will also ensure significant financing for the development of Pohjan Voima’s projects,” says Tomi Mäkipelto, CEO of Pohjan Voima.
Founded in 2007, Arise is among Sweden’s top wind power companies. The company finances, designs, builds and manages wind farms in Sweden, Norway, and Finland. In Finland, Arise currently manages five wind farms.
“This collaboration is a key element of our strategy to expand our operations both geographically and technologically. Finland presents a highly promising market. We look forward to developing and implementing projects alongside Pohjan Voima,” says Per-Erik Eriksson, CEO of Arise.
Pohjan Voima’s founders, Tomi Mäkipelto and Juho Rönni, will continue to manage and be significant owners of the company. The insurance company LähiTapiola will also continue as an owner of Pohjan Voima.
Pohjan Voima’s planned wind and solar power projects have a combined nominal power of approximately 1.7 gigawatts. The company is also actively exploring energy storage opportunities.
“We have received positive feedback regarding our upfront approach and our practical, grounded work. These aspects will remain unchanged. Now, we are stronger than ever to develop the Finnish energy system in a sustainable direction,” says Tomi Mäkipelto.
