Pohjan Voima to start wind farm planning in Ylöjärvi
Residents are invited to a discussion event on the Toivola stage on 18 December.
Pohjan Voima will start project planning for wind turbines in Ylöjärvi. The aim is to build a maximum of seven wind turbines in the Kalliomäki area, which is located approximately 25 kilometers north of the center of Ylöjärvi.
The wind farm’s total capacity is estimated to be 50 MW. The Ylöjärvi City Council decided to launch the partial master plan at its meeting on Monday, November 18.
“According to preliminary assessments, the Kalliomäki area is well-suited for wind power production. Next, an environmental impact assessment will be initiated to closely examine the project’s effects on both people and nature,” says Tomi Mäkipelto, CEO of Pohjan Voima.
The Kalliomäki wind farm will be presented at a public event on December 18 at 5 p.m. on the Toivola stage in Ylöjärvi Kyrönlahti. The event can also be attended remotely. The website kalliomaentuuli.fi will publish more detailed information and instructions on how to participate.
“Local people always possess the best understanding of the conditions. We aim to listen attentively to the residents of Ylöjärvi and consistently act with respect for both the community and nature,” says Mäkipelto.
The number and capacity of the wind turbines will be determined as more information is gathered from the area and as planning advances. At the same time, the feasibility of constructing a solar power plant and battery storage in the project area is under consideration. If the planning and permit processes proceed as intended, the generation of renewable electricity could start by 2028 at the earliest. The project has received approval from the Finnish Defence Forces.
Ylöjärvi is part of the HINKU network of carbon-neutral municipalities. The city is committed to reducing its carbon emissions by 80 percent compared to 2007 levels. Renewable energy projects contribute to these goals and create new jobs.
Pohjan Voima aims to employ as many local professionals and contractors as possible. The benefits are mutual. As the project advances, we will invite local entrepreneurs to a separate event to discuss collaboration.
Most of the Kalliomäki area is owned by Finsilva. The wind farm is part of a strategic cooperation that combines Pohjan Voima’s expertise in renewable energy with Finsilva’s local knowledge and responsible utilization of forest and natural capital. The cooperation includes several renewable energy projects across Finland.
