The cooperation opens up opportunities for new wind and solar parks and battery storage.

Finnish energy company Pohjan Voima and Finland’s fourth-largest landowner, Finsilva, are starting a deeper cooperation. The goal is to find areas suitable for wind power, solar energy, and battery projects in Finsilva’s property portfolio and start developing them together. The first five project areas have now been identified as the initial joint collaborations.

Renewable energy and related business is one of the cornerstones of Finsilva’s strategy.

“Responsibility and biodiversity are at the heart of our operations. We have been closely following Pohjan Voima’s operations for some time now. They develop projects in a long-term and sensible manner. Therefore, deepening the cooperation feels natural,” says Juha Hakkarainen, CEO of Finsilva.

Three of Pohjan Voima’s current wind farm projects are located in areas partly owned by Finsilva. They are in Karstula, Keuruu, and Parkano. The five new project areas now identified are all in the pre-planning phase, and the areas have the potential to produce an estimated 500 megawatts of wind and solar power.

Going forward, Finsilva and its owners will have the opportunity to make minority investments in projects developed within the framework of the cooperation during their investment phase. Finsilva is owned by the funds of the Finnish investment management company Dasos and the pension insurance company Ilmarinen. The cooperation gives domestic investors the opportunity to invest in renewable energy produced in Finland.

Close cooperation with a major forest owner is essential to Pohjan Voima.

“The partnership opens up a new model for us to collaborate with Finsilva in both the project development and investment phases. The collaboration will start with five already identified project proposals. I believe that in the future, we will find more areas suitable for wind and solar power,” says Juho Rönni, founder and CFO of Pohjan Voima.

“Reconciling nature, people, and economic interests in a sustainable and long-term way is deeply rooted in both of our thinking.”

Finsilva is one of the largest European private forest owners. It owns approximately 130,000 hectares of forest in Southern and Central Finland. Pohjan Voima develops renewable energy projects across Finland. These include wind farms, solar farms, battery storage, and combinations of these.

Contact

Juha Hakkarainen
CEO, Finsilva
040 087 0867
juha.hakkarainen@finsilva.fi

Juho Rönni
Founder and CFO, Pohjan Voima
040 824 8780
juho.ronni@pohjanvoima.fi

Pohjan Voima

Pohjan Voima is one of Finland’s leading developers of renewable energy.
